Lighthouses are one of my passions. Here a few of my favorites from New Jersey, Massachusetts & California.

Nauset Light, is a lighthouse in Eastham, Massachusetts. It is a cast iron plate shell lined with brick and stands 48 feet  high.The non-profit Nauset Light Preservation Society was formed and funded and, in 1995, leased the lighthouse from the Coast Guard. It arranged the light's relocation in November 1996 to a location 336 feet  west of the original one. The move was accomplished successfully by International Chimney Corporation, which had previously moved the larger Highland Light a similar distance. First year it was lit was 1877, automated in 1952. Alternating red and white flashes every 5 seconds. (Photographed October 2009)
Wood End Light is a historic station at the southwest end of Long Point in Provincetown, Massachusetts.The station was built in 1873 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It stands 45' hight above sea level and flashing red every 10 seconds. In 1981, the Light was converted to solar powered optics.  Today, Wood End Lighthouse is an active aid to navigation en route to the busy port of Provincetown. (Photographed while Whale Watching June 2011)
Race Point Light, is 45' tall and flashing white every 10 seconds.The location is the northern tip of Cape Cod. The only accessabliity is you can park at Race Point Beach and walk about 45 minutes to the lighthouse though the sane dunes.  (Photographed while Whale Watching June 2011)
Long Point Light, The grounds are open to the public, but the lighthouse is not. Long Point is accessible only in summer from Provincetown via a boat shuttle run by Flyer's from MacMillan Wharf.  The lighthouse can also be reached after a long strenuous hike across a breakwater to Wood End, then across sand to Long Point. Make sure you bring plenty of water for your enjoyable hike.Tower height is 38' Height of focal plane: 36 feet, the Present optic is 300mm (solar powered) it's Fixed green; Fog signal: One blast every 15 seconds and remains active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation (Photographed while Whale Watching June 2011)
Chaham Light, situated at the "elbow" of Cape Cod. The station was established in 1808, the second light on Cape Cod. In 1982 it became automated, now one of the few lights that operates 24 hours a day. Chatham Light was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Chatham Light Station on June 15, 1987, reference number 87001501. The lighthouse stands  80', the light can be scean off shore up to 24 nautical miles. It flashes (2) white 10s, and is lighted continuously. (Photographed June 2011)
Highland Light also known as Cape Cod Light  is a working lighthouse on the Cape Cod National Seashore in Truro, Massachusetts. The grounds are open year round, while the light is only open to the public from May until late October, with guided tours available. It is owned by the National Park Service, and cared for by the Highland Museum and Lighthouse on behalf of the United States Coast Guard which operates the light itself. The present location of the lighthouse is not the original site. It was in danger of falling down the cliff due to beach erosion, so the structure was moved 450 feet (140m) to the west. On average you lose 3' per year. The move was accomplished  over a period of 18 days in July,1996 It is now on the grounds of the Highland Golf Course. The light stands today at 66', it has a range of 18 nautical milea and flashes white 5s, lighted continuously.It remains today a active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. Gay Head Light, is located at the Aquinnah (Gay Head) Cliffs, Martha's Vineyard. The lighthouse stands 51' tall  and remains today as a active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. It has alternating red and white flashes each 15 seconds. (Photographed September 2003)
Barnegat Light is also known as "Old Barney". Barnegat Lighthouse stands on the northern tip of Long Beach Island in New Jersey. Its is regarded as one of the most crucial "change of course" points for coastal vessels. Vessels bound to and from New York along the New Jersey coastline depended on Barnegat Lighthouse to avoid the shoals extending from the shoreline. The light can be visible for up to 22 nautical miles offshore. She stands 172' and the top of the lighthouse is accessible via its 217 steps and Flashes white every10 seconds. (Photographed May 2007)
Point Pinos Light, Pacific Grove California. It is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States. The lighthouse is surrounded by the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links. Stands 89' above sea level and can be scean up to 17 miles offshore.  The location is South entrance to Monterey Bay, near Pacific Grove, California. (Photographed September 2004)
